’’BIMUN 2008’’ (27 – 30 March 2008) is international youth conference, fifth in a row, simulating work of UN bodies on the following topics:
• THE UN SECURITY COUNCIL:
"The Risk of Nuclear Proliferation: Situation in Iran"
• GENERAL ASSEMBLY – VI Committee:
"Strengthening the Role of the United Nations –"Revitalization of General Assembly"
• HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL:
"The Rights of Refugees and Internaly Displaced Persons in the Western Balkans"
• UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE COMMITTEE:
"Protection of the World Heritage and Sustainable Development”
• BIMUN Plenar Forum: "Global Action regarding Climate Changes”
’’BIMUN 2008’’ Project will be accomplished in four phases: preparatory activities, BIMUN conference, Follow up activities and ‘’BIMUN Plus’’ project (policy paper).
Participants on the conference will be students from universities in Serbia, students from the region and other countries further away. It is predicated that BIMUN 2008 will have total of 160 participants coming from over 20 countries.
The main goal of the BIMUN Project is to have students practically get familiar with mechanisms of international cooperation and basic diplomatic approach: negotiations, peaceful conflict solutions, dialogue, compromise, consensus and to understand the importance of UN role in contemporary world. ’’BIMUN 2008’’ will be an opportunity for diplomatic debates, with respect multiculturalism and democratic values, but also for acquaintances and connections of young leaders.
The way of work will unable the participants to present chosen country, different to their own, in the teams of two. Delegations will be formed by the BIMUN Organizing committee. During the preparatory period, the participants will be in touch with country delegations from different UN bodies in order to form a common strategy. The conference represents a great opportunity for active English communication, because the work language of the Conference is English.
The best participants according to the evaluation, will get financal award and an opportunity to participate in ’’BIMUN Plus’’ Project. Also, they would be able to participate, under special conditions in ’’Euromun 2008’’.
The project is organized by the United Nations Association of Serbia. The project team is made out of successful students, best participants from previous BIMUN conferences. The conference itself is based out of goode experience on conferences 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
